FAVOURITES: Winning favourites at Newmarket (July) show 231-637 for 36.26% (-68.95) so considerably above the national average.

TRAINERS: Charlie Appleby is unique when it comes to the Newmarket Racecourses. He has a big national average of 29%, yet somehow manages to replicate that figure at the headquarters of racing!

On Course Profits free Horse Racing magazine
Rowley: 70-247 for 28%  (+6.28)
July:   58-195 for 30% (-13.07)
Total: 128-442 for 29%  (-6.79)

His figures should be upgraded given he often has multiple entries in a race at this course which in turn dilutes his strike rates. Appleby clearly knows what horses are suited to this course better than any other. We have been telling members for over 3 years now this trainer is a system at Newmarket, yet again we are in profit this year with his runners at Newmarket.

Rowley: 12-27 for 44% (+9.13)
July:   17-46 for 37% (-3.52)
Total:  29-73 for 40% (+5.61)

The scoreboard says a level stake profit +5.61 to SP, but that does not represent our profit, we easily beat that with a just a modicum of filtration. What consistently puzzles in a world of tight margins there is often value to be found. Some argue lots of the winners are first time up juveniles, how can you wager with no form to go on – our response is we are primarily backing a unique and proven trainer at a course he personally excels on. As long as he continues in this vein, we will continue also…

JOHN GOSDEN: Mathematics, context and relevance is everything in racing, here are the figures of the next best at the course John Gosden. His figures merely highlight the brilliance of Appleby.

Rowley: 52-281 for 19% (-46.83)
July:   47-223 for 22% (-15.82)
Total:  99-504 for 20% (-62.65)

No other UK trainers compare to Charlie Appleby and John Gosden at Newmarket in any shape or form.

JOCKEYS: William Buick (27%) and Rob Havlin (20%) look the jockeys to follow with 7 & 5 rides respectively.

COLD LIST JOCKEY: Adam Kirby is struggling to ride at around 9st these days and consequently not getting as many rides, but that has not stopped him stepping onto the cold list with 0-26 over 18 days. He will come off the list sooner rather than later and has just one ride tomorrow in YARRALUMIA 4.20

OWNERS: Godolphin (24%) has one runner in YANTARNI 3.10. Cheveley Park Stud (16%) has one runner in CONSERVATIONIST 1.25 and Al Shaqab (15%) has one also in WAHRAAN 3.45

The major difference between the Rowley Mile and the July Course is that, whereas the former is uphill all the way to the line, the latter levels off – almost falling away – after an initial climb. It’s a lovely track, every bit as nice for jockeys as it is for summer racegoers, but, when you’re riding, you have to be on weather-watch, as sometimes there’s a faster strip on the far side, near the hospitality marquees. The long straight means it’s a very fair course, with no pace bias, and it’s ideally suited to class horses – Jason Weaver.
