FAVOURITES: Sandown is unique in regard to winning favourites and the results are from a decent sample size. Five of our six categories make a profit to level stakes over the past 5 years.

In total 171 winning favourites have won from 429 races for a strike rate of 39.86% and a level stake profit of +£15.78 so well above the national average! Favourites in non-handicaps win at 49% whilst handicap favourites win at 35%.

Five of the seven races have less than 10 runners, so the tactical element is increased, so more a need for a top jockey who rides the course well.

TRAINERS: Our top 5 trainers at the track have a strong hand tomorrow and look like winning at least 3 of the first 6 races. Andrew Balding (15%) has 5 entries, whilst Richard Hannon (12%) and William Haggas (22%) have 2 entries each.

The top trainer at Sandown is J & T Gosden who shows a course strike rate of 23% so 2% above their national average, he has one runner in HARROVIAN 4.05 to be ridden by James Doyle. Has the blinkers and tongue strap to help him.

Charlie Appleby (29%) scores 27% at the track so significantly higher than Team Gosden. He runs 2 in the same race and a chance to score; they include ONE NATION & GOLDEN SPEECH 2.55.

JOCKEYS: Frankie Dettori shows a huge 35% at the track so 12%+ ahead of the next bests but he is currently AWOL.

We have 4 hot jockeys riding 9 horses tomorrow and winners' beckon from this quartet who include Andrea Atzeni, William Buick, Ryan Moore & James Doyle.

OWNERS: Knowing who the leading owners at a track are is always important and often profitable and 3 of our top 5 owners had 6 interesting runners tomorrow.

The suggestion is there will be a couple of winners from this trio of owners!

Godolphin run ONE NATION & GOLDEN SPEECH 2.55 and PASSION AND GLORY 4.05.

King Power race FOXES TALES 4.05 & FOX VARDY 4.38

Saeed Suhail runs GOLDEN VOICE 3.30

BY THE WAY: Jamie Spencer (14%) is on a losing run of 23 over the past 21 days and it is unusual for him to have full books of rides these days. He has a real chance of a winner on RODRIGO DIAZ 2.20 (his sole ride tomorrow) but it is 6 rides at Leicester on Saturday we find more interesting.

They include MAHANAKHON POWER 2.45, CAMACHESS 3.55, HOPEMAN HARBOUR 4.30, PERSUASION 5.00, THE GREEN MAN 5.30 & FOUR FEET 6.05. What chance of him 0-30 over 25 days come Sunday morning? We will play a form of stop at a winner from here…

Sandown Racecourse Configuration

Right-handed, oval-shaped course thirteen furlongs in length with a straight of half a mile. Essentially a fair, galloping course which places the emphasis on stamina courtesy of a gradual climb from the home turn. On soft ground the jockeys sometimes tack across to the stand side in the straight and this can lead to horses racing wide apart. The five-furlong track runs across the main circuit and rises steadily throughout.

Jason Weaver on Sandown

There’s no doubt it’s a big advantage being on the far rail up Sandown’s sprint course and a lot of horses drawn badly, even in medium-sized fields, fail to get into contention. It can be tricky in a finish, too, with a lot happening in the final furlong, and there’s no surprise that it lends itself to front-runners. They always seem to go quick down the back on the round course, and it’s quite a long way from the bottom of the hill to the winning post, but horses really stretch out on that kind final rise to the line.
