FIXTURES

(%): NATIONAL AVERAGE SAW: Since a win E: Entries R: Rides

WINNING FAVOURITES – Winning favourites at Newbury over the past 5 years show 113-294 for 38.44% (-15.71).

There is a huge difference, albeit a small sample, between the non-handicap winning favourites and the handicap winning favourites and something best acknowledged.

Hurdle and Chase favourites in non-handicaps have very strong figures showing 55-100 for 55% and a level stake profit of +9.80 so a good starting position when considering the card.

TRAINERS – Well-known information but Nicky Henderson (23%) and Paul Nicholls (24%) dominate the racing here and we rarely take them on here if we are not backing their runners!

We note Henderson's strike rate has dropped over the last year or two but still 21%, his national average has also dropped to 23% from 24%.

Both trainers have 6 runners each, and hard to say who will take the gold medal.

Nicholls trains the Pacafi in STAGE STAR 1.55 which looks the day's banker!

We were quite surprised to realise Dan Skelton (19%) shows just 8-113 for 7% (-66.52) at Newbury so a whacking 12% below his national average. He looks competitive tomorrow with 6 runners and some with winning chances! His last 11 runners have produced 6 second places (3 winners from his last 12) so bang in form! He has 11 runners in total tomorrow so a busy day and we can reasonably expect winners from them!

JOCKEYS – Harry Cobden (22%) is leading jockey at course, just, and he has 4 rides. Nico de Boinville (22%) also has 4 rides, and we can expect multiple winners from this duo!

Tom Scudamore (14%) goes to Ffos Las to ride 2 handicappers, so we assume one of those is likely to be competitive.

Another absentee is Sam Twiston-Davies (15%) who is in the doldrums and current 26 rides without a winner over 10 days, and 2-39 for just 5% over the past 14 days. He goes to Doncaster for 5 rides and will almost certainly ride a winner there. Stop at a winner?

OWNERS – Only J P McManus (17%) from our leader board has runners tomorrow, they include CAMPROND 1.55, CHAMP 3.05 & DIDTHEYLEAVEUOUTTO 3.40

BY THE WAY – Please note Joe Tizzard does have a national average of 20% but he is yet to have a runner at Newbury since he took over the licence, so the figures belong to Colin (13%). Going forward their figures will be amalgamated.

It’s among the fairest courses in the country and you get few hard-luck stories. There’s plenty of time during a race, with two very long straights and two sweeping bends, and you don’t often get too much shimmying or jockeying for position. If you’ve got the right horse, everything seems to happen nice and smoothly. The fences are very fair and, although the cross-fence used to claim a lot of victims, it’s nowhere near as bad now. Newbury is a great place for a novice and, unlike Cheltenham say, where the fences can be tricky for inexperienced horses, it’s really straightforward” – Mick Fitzgerald.
