FIXTURES
Friday 13 May 2022
Saturday 21 May 2022
Sunday 22 May 2022

(%): National Average E: Entries R: Rides
NOTE: Figures do not include Thursday's results

COURSE: Left handed, flat. In essence, a very fair track, ideal for the
long-striding galloper. In recent seasons, the field tends to come more
down the centre of the track than has historically been the case,
particularly if conditions are testing.

FAVOURITES: Favourites do not have a great record here, the past 5 years
show 148-463 for 32% but surprisingly only a small level stake loss of
-9.44. Best category is the 4yo+ in non-handicaps with 27-51 for 53%
(+9.64)

TRAINERS: Dermot Weld brings his 6yo mare SEARCH FOR A SONG over from
Ireland to take on Stradivarius. William Haggas approaches 100 winners
at York with 96-577 for 17% and this year finds him in great form
scoring 38-134 for a big 28%. He has just the one entry on Friday in
PERFECT NEWS 2.25.

Regarding volume, Karl Burke has 7 entered, both Charlie & Mark Johnston
and Roger Fell have 6, whilst Richard Fahey, Time Easterby and David
O'Meara have 5 runners each.

Ralph Beckett finds himself on the cold list with 0-23 and this run must
surely end within the next few days.

JOCKEYS: Our hot jockey list looks the perfect starting place for
Friday's racing and our 5-named jockeys must surely ride winners.
Frankie Dettori has 4 rides and he will be hoping for a win double at
least.

OWNERS: Given their ammunition York is not the strongest course for
Godolphin (24%) runners. They have 2 entered in the 4.10 and will
probably provide the winner, they are WILD CRUSADE 11/4 & NEW COMEDY
4/1. The advice must surely be back and save at the best prices!

Clipper Logistics (17%) also have 2 entries at bigger prices in PILLOW
TALK 1.50 & LOVE INTEREST 2.25.

BY THE WAY: Since Thady Gosden was given trainer status the 25% winning
strike rate of John Gosden has dropped a big 5% to 20%. 2022 is
currently showing 22-135 for just 16% (-73.83) but the team have
recorded 35 second-places. The 20% will rise over the coming months,
that is for sure and we hope to take this particular fact to the bank!

Meanwhile, our leader board shows the results of John Gosden at York
21-70 for a massive 30% (+7.39) and winning nearly £3m over the 4 years
preceding last year, when Thady officially joined the team. Last year
the team scored 7-24 for 29% (+3.79) so total figures show 28-94 for 28%
(+11.18). The team have 2 runners on Friday including GRANDE DAME 2.25 &
STRADIVARIUS 3.35. With a great win double on the first day of York this
looks like another win double. It will be great to see Stradivarius
racing again as an 8yo and all eyes will be waiting for the rug to come
off in the paddock, we are mindful his 4 rivals all have a fitness edge
over him.

“Because they can start racing from a long way out at York, which is a
big galloping track, sometimes the last one to challenge has an
advantage. Some people think it suits front-runners, but more often than
not the one in the lead will get picked off at around the 1f marker.
There’s no doubt it’s a quality course, though, wide, with no ridges,
lovely sweeping turns and no draw bias. It can become very testing when
the ground gets soft – it is KnavesMIRE, after all – and then it really
takes some getting” – Jason Weaver talking about York Racecourse
