how to profit in handicaps

I've been thinking a lot recently about the leader in our tipping competition, The Raiders!

The up to date profit for this one tipster is 208.43 points profit from March 1st up to Sunday night.

The stake on every bet entered has been 1 point win and 1 point to place.

The ROI is 93% at Betfair SP after commission.

If I hadn't seen every bet entered early each morning I wouldn't believe numbers like that were possible.

As I mentioned I am 99% sure we will have these selections available after the competition ends, either for Platinum members or as a stand alone service, so I'm obviously very pleased about that.

But, I want to know how it's done, how these selections are found.

What I've discovered so far is that all the selections seem to be in all age handicaps.

I think that is the first 'secret'.

I've said many times before that in a handicap, if the handicapper has done his job correctly any horse should be able to win.

You will always have horses that are 'well handicapped' but the point is that big priced selections win in handicaps.

This is not a system, but I can tell you that if you had bet every horse that started with a BSP of 22.0 or bigger in 4 year old + handicaps on the flat last year you would have made an 8% ROI from 2907 bets.

There were only 838 races so that profit comes from backing 3 or 4 in each race.

Which I think proves the point, big priced selections can and do win in handicaps and every horse has a chance in these races.

The Raiders have tipped selections at 33/1, 50/1 and 66/1, they've had two winners at over 70.0 BSP.

But because they bet win and place their strike rate is a manageable 29%.

So my advice is don't be afraid to back an outsider in all aged handicaps, in fact you should probably be proactively looking for selections at the tail end of the market!
