Quick ground – small fields – short odds

Quick ground at Newmarket today which has given us some small fields and some shorter priced favourites.

Thursday Jul 09  13:50  Newmarket  Del Maro  1.00  Point  Win - Finished a close-up second in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot where the runner-up form has since been boosted, Charlie Appleby has won three of the last five runnings of this race and William Buick is in the saddle, making 15/8 (bet365) a fair price for the most proven horse in the field.

Thursday Jul 09  14:25  Newmarket  Adaay Of Scarlett  1.00  Point  Win - Hugo Palmer's colt won on debut at this very track and then produced a career-best effort to finish second in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, bringing stronger course-and-distance form than the odds-on market leader and representing solid value at 7/4 (bet365).

Thursday Jul 09  15:00  Newmarket  Thunder Call  1.00  Point  Win - William Haggas's progressive three-year-old won his York handicap debut without being fully pressed, suggesting a 6lb rise underestimates his ceiling, and Tom Marquand takes over in the saddle making 7/2 (bet365) a fair price in this Heritage Handicap.

Thursday Jul 09  15:35  Newmarket  Rebel's Romance  1.00  Point  Win - Charlie Appleby's globe-trotter has won nine Group 1 races worldwide, returned to winning ways at Meydan in February and relishes the fast ground he will encounter here, with William Buick aboard making Evens (Betway) a reasonable price against limited opposition.
