Thursday Jan 15  15:52  Fairyhouse  Shanroe Act  1.00  Point  Win & Place (Betfair)

The Karl Thornton, January and Fairyhouse angle has produced excellent figures over the past few years. He has 3, potentially 4 runners (if the reserve gets in) tomorrow. Bookmakers have already trimmed early prices for two of the runners in both divisions of the Handicap Hurdles. Thorntons figures since 2022 in January at Fairyhouse deserve closer attention…..

  • Total runners at Fairyhouse in January: 26r 8w 13p
  • Maiden Hurdles : 6r 0w 6p (5 different horses all ran in 2022 & 2023).
  • Handicap Chases : 4r 3w 4p (3 different horses including an entry tomorrow Don't Talk who won a Hcap Chase here in January 2025. More on that later)
  • Handicap Hurdles : 15r 5w 9p (including a 40-1 winner here earlier in the month after withdrawing the horse (Shanroe Nelson) that had been supported in the overnight and morning markets

The figures speak for themselves and any Thornton runner in a handicap is certainly worth a second look. I am though taking a pass with the two of Thorntons horses ridden by Ben Harvey (Don't Talk and Shanroe Nelson) as his record for the stable is 15r 0w 0p including a couple of down the field rides recently on Don't Talk. I'll plump for Shanroe Act due to the jockey booking of Daniel King who was successful on the 40-1 winner at the course earlier this month. I'll also be also keeping a close eye on whether the reserve Shanroe Nancy gets into the field for the 3.18 Division 1 race. It wouldn't be any surprise if each horse has a strong showing. I wouldn't put you off backing each one as strange things happen with this stable! (Shanroe Nancy does run)
