Who’s hot in July?

In this article I’ve highlighted four trainers it could pay to keep onside in the month of July. As we know, trainers can be creatures of habit, and this includes the time of year they target or have the most success. Some target early season, some late and some like to get their strings to peak for specific periods.

Trainers peaking at certain times in a season can be linked to their training methods and/or the types of horses they like to source and work with. Of course, there may be specific meetings they like to target also.

In any case it can pay to keep certain trainers onside at specific times of year. I’ve been posting my ‘monthly trainers’ on my blog since the start of October, and they’ve been doing ok. In fact, May was the first losing month I think (-7 points, it was also the first month with Flat trainers, so some caution there) but as a ‘systematic portfolio’ they’re on around +46 points to 1 point win, Betfair Exchange Starting Price.

Their real value may well be more as a ‘way in’ for further assessment and of course I end up landing on some trainers who enter the month on the cold list, and never warm up. Keeping an eye on a trainer’s recent form can be useful.

With that said, four trainers to keep an eye on as we head into July…
