They love it, you will too

I got a note from Alice this morning to say we have been getting a lot of positive feedback about Smart Value Tips.

I'm not surprised, Martin puts in a huge amount of work and it shows in his detailed write ups.

16:37 Clonmel – DANCING FRUITS (Place Only)

This looks a race that revolves around Arcadian Emperor from the Willie Mullins yard, who sets a clear standard and is likely hard to beat, so the angle here is very much playing for a place rather than taking him on outright. Dancing Fruits was actually put up on his rules debut a few weeks back when strongly supported at Gowran Park. He travelled well for a long way that day before fading late on to finish 5th of 18.

The really interesting angle here is the trainer. Ellmarie Holden doesn’t send many runners to Clonmel, but when she does, they tend to run well:

  • Clonmel record: 3/13 (23% win) 10/13 (77% place)
  • Maiden hurdles at the track: 1/5 (20% win) 5/5 (100% place)

For a smaller yard, those are seriously strong numbers and it’s clearly a track she targets carefully. While I’d normally focus on 5-year stats, in this case it definitely pays to look at the overall record given the limited runners — and it’s hard to ignore how effective she’s been here.

With the odds-on favourite likely dominating, this looks a straightforward setup:

  • Main bet: Place only (best price now is 4-1)
  • Potential other angles:
  • Small reversed forecast with the Mullins favourite
  • Each-way “without the favourite” market

Dancing Fruits, given the yard’s excellent record at the track, looks to have solid place credentials in a race where one horse may simply be too good. I have just looked again at the current markets and Paddy Power have him at 50-1, no place only prices available with them yet. But still a huge price.

I've asked for 5.0 in the Betfair 4 places market, that market is currently showing a 1000% overround so not properly formed yet, I'll check in later to see if I get that matched.
