3.45pm Newbury – Greatwood Gold Cup
Vincenzo rightly heads the market for this race, having rock solid form in all his recent starts. He rattled up a hattrick of runner up efforts in this race last year, the Paddy Power Gold Cup and then the December Gold Cup. A deserved victory at Ascot in January rewarded his consistent efforts. He's a pretty short price today though and there are better options at the price.
Twinjets is a horse who could still have more to give, but if he's to win this he is probably approaching on graded class, which I wouldn't say he is. The same can be said for Issam regarding having more to give. He bolted up last time at Kempton, making it two wins from four starts, but I do wonder if he can replicate that performance.
The overpriced one has to be Heltenham. He has won three times from five visits to Newbury and has been campaigned this season with a consistently dropping handicap rating. His last run here was behind Twinjets, where he was given loads to do in the home straight, giving the winner a hefty head start. A return to this track is key and given the size of the pot, I would imagine this has been on Dan Skelton's mind.
If there were any others of interest, I would say Koukeo could still have room for improvement. He won two on the bounce before being a beaten favourite at Musselburgh last time and could have more to offer stepped up in distance for the first time over fences.
Bet
Back Heltenham each way
All the best
