Guineas preview & selection

It's Guineas day today, the first classic of the season and I have the Victor Value run down for you.

3:25 – Betfred 2000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) – 1m

Field Of Gold a promising juvenile showed he has improved plenty from two to three when running out an impressive winner of the Craven Stakes over C&D last month. There should be more to come from the son of Kingman.

Shadow Of Light was the best of these as a 2-year-old winning the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes here last autumn. Not certain to stay a mile and William Buick opts for stablemate Ruling Court.

Ruling Court, third to Lion In Winter in the Acomb Stakes at York last August, made a winning return to action in the UAE 2,000 Guineas at Meydan in March. Connection see him as a potential Derby horse but he could have the speed to win this.

Green Impact improved to win a Group 2 at Leopardstown on his final 2-year-old start, beating the useful Delacroix, who subsequently finished a nose second to Hotazhell in the Futurity and has since made a winning seasonal reappearance in a Group 3. I have already advised him at 20/1 for the race. I am not as confident as I was given trainer Jessica Harrington hasn’t had a winner for 24 days.

Expanded, Aidan O’Brien’s sole representative, the son of Wootten Bassett ran a blinder to finish a neck runner-up to Shadow Of Light in the Dewhurst on just his second career start. He’ll stay a mile can do better as a 3-year-old. Trainer is bidding for his 11th Guineas success.

VV are already on Green Impact ante post at a big price but recent poor form from the Harrington yard is now a major concern. Beau Stats Racing also go for Green Impact each-way, here's what they say

At a bigger price, Green Impact catches the eye. This will be its seasonal reappearance, so improvement is needed, but it ran to a speed rating of 91 when winning a Group 2 last time out – the highest in the field. Its winning time was only a fraction slower than Field Of Gold’s, and with four places on offer at 11/1, it looks a solid each-way option.

Good luck with all your bets today.

All the best
