Interesting – making money go further

No win for Flamborough Head yesterday but there was money for it and it took an early lead and hit 5/2 in running.

If a horse starts at considerably shorter than the price I've taken I always see that as a positive sign, win or lose.

Today I want to  mention something that has nothing to do with racing or betting, but is a tip I picked up from a mate to make my money go a bit further.

I get interest on my current account, it's 2%, not great but it's something.

My mate Paul has a Trading 212 account.

If you've not heard of Trading 212 they are a share platform where you can buy fractional shares, which means you can buy less than one share in a company.

They pay 4% interest on cash held in the account, they also provide you with a debit card to spend that cash and pay cashback on purchases.

They also let you lend out the shares you own and you get interest on those loans also.

What Paul does is he transfers his spending money each month to Trading 212 so he can earn interest until he spends it and earn cashback when he does spend it and he has that interest and cashback automatically invested in more shares which will grow over time.

Trading 212 is regulated like a bank so your money is protected upto £85k.

I've had an account for a while, but hadn't done much with it but I've just got the debit card, which I was able to instantly add to my Apple pay on my phone.

I now pay my bills and standing orders etc from my Santander and my spending money goes to Trading 212 and I use their debit card to get the 1.5% cashback on my card purchases and the 4% on the money until I spend it.

Anyway it's only a few pound each week, but as they say look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.
