I’m back from my holiday but I have sad news to share with you.
While I was away I had a message from Carl Nicholson’s wife Nicola to tell me that Carl had passed away after a short illness.

Carl was the first tipster we worked with back in the Betting School days and we launched his Value Backing service in 2012.
Carl was an inspired tipster who had a feel for the big priced value bet and one of my best punting days came in that same year when he tipped Solemia for the l’Arc de Triomphe.
I watched that race with my dad with a 66/1 ticket in my hand.
The news of Carl’s passing came as a big shock and it’s hard to come to terms with.
I don’t really know what else to say except rest in peace Carl Nicholson 18/11/1968 – 19/6/2026
Betting all my adult life, firstly at the greyhound track where my dad was a trainer more recently horses.
A fan of systems based betting which I've been practicing and writing about since 2004 which was the last time I had a real job.
There's racing at Pontefract today so check out our Draw Bias Hub and specifically our Pontefract Draw Bias page. I will have a look at the 16:48, my view is that there is extra value in the 1 mile 2 furlong races as people don't expect the bias to prevail there but it's stronger than…
Somebody just asked me about this book - https://amzn.to/45hrWaM I've never heard of it or the author. It says it has 8 reviews, but when you click to read them you can only read the one 5 star review. "What it means on which day of the week a horses form comes from" I'm not sure horses…
Things aint what they used to be says everyone, probably, as they get older. And nowhere is that truer than in the racecourse betting ring. This morning I've been reading a review of Gary Wiltshire's new book over at Geegeez I've not read the book myself but Tony Stafford gives a good account of a…
The boring secret behind unstoppable profits Everyone wants the big one. That acca that turns £2 into a holiday in the Maldives. The Tote Jackpot or Lotto win. But here’s the brutal truth no one wants to hear… Most punters chasing big wins are just chasing their tails. Of course people do win the lotto…
We've not had any content from Colin Magee recently but his Betwise platform has just added a feature that is very interesting. We all use trainer stats. But the question we're usually asking is the wrong one. "Does this trainer win a lot?" isn't what matters. What matters is: does this trainer do well with this…
I'm busy working on the new magazine which is out tomorrow. I love reading the new mag each month, it fires off ideas and triggers me to check things that may have passed me by. This morning trigger was to look at how the tipster competition entries are doing. We had just over 40 enter…
