April Micro Systems

As always, a quick check back on how last month’s micros systems got on.  In a nutshell, it was not the best of months at all.

The usual mixed bag but the biggest losers were in areas we’d have perhaps least expected.

Olly Murphy, Willie Mullins and Chris Gordon together managed to wipe out any chance of profit on the win side of things. Places ended in profit so that was something.

However, on the upside, as always, there are a few systems that have proven profitable under live testing to carry forward to next year.

Ben Pauling’s had a nice 30.77% strike rate and ended 7 points up.  Stuart Edmonds made a small profit across 15 bets also adding in a useful 5 points of profit with his places.

Gary Moore’s system had only 5 bets but ended in profit and had a very nice big place along the way as well.

The other system in profit was Rebecca Menzies, garnering 3 wins from the 12 bets on that system.

Elsewhere we hit a nice 41.67% strike rate on Andrew Balding’s system but unfortunately the winners were all low odds and things end 2.6 points down.

Here’s the complete set of results for February:

The overriding thing with February’s micro systems was the price of the winning bets.

Across the whole 151 bets we saw a BSP A/E of 1.02 on wins and an A/E of 1.09 on Betfair Place SP, so it would appear we had value on our side over all but were unable to find those mid price winners to back it up.

Onwards now to see what we can find for April 2026.

We will continue with the approach we started last month which was to use the excellent dig function on Horseracebase to see what trainer and jockey combos have performed well over the past three Aprils and from there investigate some further to see what micro systems we can find.

We will be using data from the past four Aprils rather than three to give us a little more data for these.

We’ll start with Flat.

Our first one is one that requires no filters and that’s Wayne Lordan riding for Natasha Lupini.

There are just a handful of bets at most each April and in fact the last three years have seen just one win in each of them.

Winning odds have been consistently good though and I think it is well worth putting into our live test.

In all there have been 6 winners from 14 runners during out 2022 to 2025 window.

The winners have come at BSP Odds of 16.00, 31.97, 3.98, 16.51, 14.50 and 7.00.

Next up is Jack Mitchell riding for Tom Clover.

Looking through the data it is clear that the lower end of things is where the profit has been.  Prize money up to £8000 is where all the wins have come.

This gives us this very micro system that’s found some tidy winners.

Our next combo is James Ferguson and Daniel Muscutt.

If we remove Novice races where they are 0 for 3 we are left with this system for April.
