Newbury Racecourse
Newbury is located in Berkshire, England. It is situated close to Lambourn which is the second biggest centre for training in England after Newmarket and means it’s a short trip for many trainers.
Racing dates back over 100 years here with racing starting just after the turn of the 20th century, 1905 to be precise. There are some big races held here during the season including the Ladbrokes Trophy (formerly the Hennessy Gold Cup), the Betfair Hurdle and the Lockinge Stakes. They have 31 race days this year across both the Flat and National Hunt.
We’ll start by looking at how individual trainers and jockeys have fared here.
Below are the Trainers who have had at least 10 winners at Newbury over the past five years. The figures below also include races at Newbury so far in 2026 as well.

Richard Hannon Jnr has the most wins at 58, with Haggas (53) and Balding (43) the only other two close to that total of wins. William Haggas has a very decent strike rate of 22.18% considering he has saddled 239 horses at Newbury over the past five years. Charlie Appleby has an even better strike rate at 28.41% albeit over just 88 runners. Owen Burrows is another in the 20%’s, almost at 30% in fact with 17 winners from 58 runners, whilst also gathering an impressive 31 places at the same time.
Hannon Jnr tops the profit list with a massive 360.13 points but before we get too excited most of that came with a massive 310.00 BSP winner in September 2025 when Night Patrol won a Novice Stakes at 125/1 ISP. That said his figures are fairly consistent across the five years, turning a profit in five of them, 2023 the only exception at a hefty -40 points.
Let’s look at Owen Burrows record in a bit more detail.
Whilst his overall record looks very impressive, he has in fact only profited in two of the past five years, although his losses in any single year have topped out at just over -7 points, so not exactly disastrous. His two winning years have both been very good, going 5 for 7 in 2022 for 24.88 points profit and 6 for 16 in 2025 for 32.60 points profit. He has already had two winners this year from seven runs and is showing a tiny loss of 0.15 points to date. Place wise he has made profit in four of the five years with the losing year at just 0.82 points whilst wins range from between 2-8 points.
As far as race types go Handicaps are the weak point, albeit still showing a profit of just over 2 points in our data. His non handicap shows up much better with 13 wins from 31 races for nearly 40 points of profit.
Back to the full data if we look at who the jockey was then Jim Crowley has the best record on his horses with 7 wins from 16 so hopefully, he’ll be fit to ride some this year. Callum Rodriguez is an impressive 4 for 6 and Billy Loughnane 2 for 4. Those two have taken the recent rides here.
As far as the days since run when his horses come here, there’s not too much to glean other than the fact he only has 1 winner from 10 attempts when the horse ran less than 21 days ago. So perhaps that is something to factor in to your thoughts.
He’s only used headgear 10 times out of the 58 runners in our data. None of them have won with four placing.
