This boy is on fire 🚒

I probably should have done the forecast yesterday with the race panning out as predicted with the hot favourite beating my system bet, although by racetime the hot favourite was second favourite to our bet.

I got 1.5 on the place only.

Pep's Big Race Tips – selection

2.55pm Sandown – Celebration Chase (Grade 1)

I’ve rarely been on the right side of Jonbon, but I don’t really see how he’s going to win this race. Yes, his record at Sandown is good, but he doesn’t have the pace that he used to. This is less than two miles on good ground and he needs a bigger test of stamina these days.

It’s not exactly a deep field though. On his day, Solness could win this, but he’s inconsistent. He ran a belter to just be denied by Grey Dawning at Aintree a couple of weeks ago and he won’t get his own way today.

Mirabad picked up the pieces at Aintree, JPR One isn’t a Grade 1 horse and Edwardstone has his best days behind him. Brookie is also one who just shouldn’t be good enough here.

Thistle Ask has everything in his favour today. Right-handed, good ground, short distance, jumping test. He has been dynamite over his fences and that is such an advantage down the back at Sandown with the rhythm he gets in. He has been saved for this since the Clarence House at Ascot, where the soft ground played into Jonbon’s hands. I don’t think Thistle Ask will have a much better shot at a Grade 1 and the stars have aligned beautifully. This would be a very fitting way for Dan Skelton to end the season, by winning the final Grade 1.

Back Thistle Ask to win
