I’m stepping in while Darren is away this week and I’m fortunate that it’s for one of my favourite weeks of the year!
Royal Ascot wastes no time and starts the meeting with the quality that it means to go on…

Will Notable Speech make it third time lucky at the meeting in the Queen Anne? I’m not sure, there’s plenty of talented opposition queuing up behind him in the market.
Aidan O’Brien has the top 2 in the betting in the Coventry – oppose him at your peril!
The Aussie raider, Overpass, bids to make it 3 from the last 5 in the King Charles III for the land down under.
Bow Echo vs Gstaad round 2 in the St James’s Palace.
It’s a great day and the bet I’m most keen on comes later in the piece and it’s Map Of Stars in the Wolferton Stakes at 5.35pm. There's a good bit of 9/1 knocking around at the moment.
His recent form figures of 735 don’t exactly bring much inspiration. However, those runs have all been at 12f. His 10f form is far better, with wins up to Group 2 level, a couple of Group 1 runner-ups and a fourth behind Ombudsman in the Prince Of Wales’s here last season. I’m banking on the return to this distance working the oracle today.
I’ll be posting all my bets on the Pep’s Big Race Tips service (which you can access below) all week if you want more of what you’re reading.
Hopefully your Royal Ascot gets off to a winning start!

Betting all my adult life, firstly at the greyhound track where my dad was a trainer more recently horses.
A fan of systems based betting which I've been practicing and writing about since 2004 which was the last time I had a real job.
No winners on the Handicap Hurdle shortlist yesterday! Today I'll answer a few queries and questions. What about Course and Distance winners, we've had a few people ask about this as John's original outline included C&D's. Looking at the data back to 2014 if I add a filter to only include horses with a course…
No win for the bet I shared yesterday. But for those that joined Smart Value Tips the Stephen Thorne angle paid off and that is one to keep in the notebook. Today I have another tip from Smart Value Tips and some extra info that was sent to members last night. First I want to…
Most bettors obsess over ROI. When I say most bettors, I'm talking about us here at OCP. All our systems are judged on ROI, our tipsters are judged on ROI and our tipping competition is judged on ROI. (And by the way The Raiders is still showing a 63% ROI since April 1st when proofing…
Did you get the Geegeez big mistake pdf today. I urge you to read it. There's a few things worth taking on board. The one worth mentioning today is the Covid SP Quirk. Matt Bisogno gives the full story in the PDF but basically SP used to be decided by on course bookies, taking account…
It's Guineas day today, the first classic of the season and I have the Victor Value run down for you. 3:25 – Betfred 2000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) – 1m Field Of Gold a promising juvenile showed he has improved plenty from two to three when running out an impressive winner of the Craven Stakes over…
Mixed views on staking plans from readers. There are of course many what I would call reckless plans that work for a while and then crash. I consider what I outlined yesterday to be super safe. The one question I did want to answer today is around return on capital. People of course like to…
