Six Handicap Sleepers For The Summer

Six horses on winnable marks and the conditions they are most likely to win under

What is a Handicap Sleeper?

Handicap Sleepers are those horses that are sliding back down the ratings and currently sit on a mark below their peak/last winning mark. Many punters overlook them as ‘out of form' types, but I monitor a large number of these horses, waiting for their optimal (Prime) conditions before betting them at favourable odds.

As well as a sliding handicap mark I also need to be able to establish strong trends and preferences from their winning AND losing past form… or in other words I like to be able to pin Prime Conditions to the horse in question, conditions I’ll be sitting and waiting for them to appear under so that I can get the money down and look to pull in profit.

The six horses featured in this article are considered, by myself, to be well handicapped based on my in depth assessment of their previous performances and, of course, on their current official rating (OR). I have identified prime racing conditions where these horses tend to run to their optimum, conditions where all, or at least a majority, of their past winning performances have been secured.

These horses are derived from a huge set of personal notes which I continually update, refine, and modify, ensuring that I remain as informed, prepared and as ahead of the game as I possibly can be.

Let’s get started…

It is always worth noting that sometimes Handicap Sleepers such as the ones highlighted in this article will occasionally win out with their prime conditions, without our money down.

It happens; we deal with it and move on…

Also… it’s not always a case of waiting for ALL conditions to be ticked for a horse, you can sometimes be waiting forever for that to happen.

If, for example, 4 of the 5 prime conditions are ticked, it’s a case of making a judgement call based on price and how important the missing angle is in conjunction with that day’s race… it’s always important to remain relatively flexible and factor in the other conditions at play (for example the likely pace of race, impact of the draw, etc…)…

Cheers and Happy Handicap Sleeper Punting
