At the time of writing the big National Hunt yards are gearing up for the new Winter season which in our opinion gets underway from October onwards.

Yes, we have jumps racing all year round these days, but it’s when there is proper underfoot conditions that the action hots up, and of course the Road to Cheltenham begins in earnest with the Showcase Fixture at Prestbury Park towards the end of October.

For this piece we are going to delve into the yards that traditionally make a fast start during the October through to the end of December period, starting with Miss Venetia Williams.

Venetia Williams

Since becoming a trainer, she quickly established herself as one of the top 10 yards in National Hunt racing, along with recording the most wins by a lady trainer in the history of the sport.

Throughout her career, Venetia Williams has won many significant races but none more so than in 2009 when Mon Mome triumphed in The Grand National. She became only the second woman in history to achieve such an accolade.

During the latest 5 year period the yard has consistently fired in plenty of winners during the 4th quarter of the year, which can be seen in the following table.

Overall, blindly backing all of the yard’s runners during the October-December period would have made a profit to Betfair SP in 3 of the 5 latest years.

If we drill down a little further, we find that type of runner we should be concentrating on is her Chasers and a limited number of Bumper runners during the final quarter of the year.
